Boys of Summer

  • Hi, I would love to find lyrics of this song I hear on radio so often. It is quite a popular song starting with 'nobody on the road, nobody on the beach.." and then it goes "..untill the boys of summer are gone.." (not sure if that phrase is correct). Please provide me full lyrics of this song (pointing to a link is fine). Also, pardon my ignorance but is 'boys of summer' a group or title of this song? Anything else associated with this song would be great too! Thank you so much.

  • Hi websearcher-ga, Thanks for this answer. I was hoping for a more elaborate answer though. Something like, history behind this song and/or group etc.. Also, Don Henley website seems to be under construction? Thank you!

  • Hi var: Don Henley is a solo artist. More information about his "history" can be found at: Don Henley’s Solo Flight http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/henleys_solo_flight.htm Don Henley http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/modern_drummer.htm Don Henley Interview http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/don_henley_interview.htm and many, many of the other articles under "Article List" on: http://www.donhenleyfans.com/ "The Boys of Summer" was released in 1984 on the album "Building the Perfect Beast". Don Henly Discography http://www.webcom.com/triangle/eagles/henley_content.html The following articles mention "The Boys of Summer": Don Henley Record Interview URL: http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/desperados_new_dawn.html Quotes: When we did "Boys of Summer," we recorded the whole song in whatever key it was written in, and I did it, and I said, "This is not quite right. " And it was finished we'd done the whole thing and the album was late-and I said, "We've got to raise this up half a step." And they all looked at me like, "You're nuts! What's the matter with you?" And I said, "No, believe me, it'll be a lot better. So we did it all over again, and they went, "Geez, you're right!" "Boys of Summer" was one of those great, rare moments where I got so inspired by the track that Mike Campbell had given me that it just sort of wrote itself. It came just screamin' out of me. And I was jumping up and down in the car 'cause I knew I had something there. I said, "This is good and I know it's good, it's great." I like writing that way sometimes. Maybe it's sort of impersonal; I suppose people have this vision of two guys sitting down with guitars in a room with a little light bulb and some cigarettes and beer. And sometimes we used to do it that way, Glenn and I would sit down and bang 'em out that way. But sometimes I like to be alone with the material, because the actual process of writing and recording with all the equipment and the people around gets in the way of dreaming, gets in the way of the creative process. I like to write with people who don't mind giving me a cassette and leaving me alone. On the other hand, I'm not opposed to sitting down with somebody and writing with them. Henley Interview 1987 URL: http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/henley_and_kortchmar.html Quotes: Beyond that, I'm also not convinced we really accomplished all that much. Kennedy was president and everybody thought it was Camelot, but look at what we did. We raised all that hell in the Sixties, and then what did we come up with in the Seventies? Nixon and Reagan. The country reverted right back into the hands it was in before. I don't think we changed a damn thing, frankly. That's what the last verse of "The Boys of Summer" was about. I think our intentions were good, but the way we went about it was ridiculous. We thought we could change things by protesting and making firebombs and growing our hair long and wearing funny clothes. But we didn't follow through. After all our marching and shouting and screaming didn't work, we withdrew and became yuppies and got into the Me Decade. Songwriting—The Heart of the Matter URL: http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/songwriting_heart_of_the_matter.htm Quotes: Other songwriters previously profiled in American Songwriter have talked about how some songs they’ve written have become its, yet when they heard them on the radio there were lines that still haunted them that they wished they’d written differently. Henley admits he feels that way about a couple of his song. “The Long Run” could have been a better song,” he says. “The Boys of Summer” maybe could have even had a couple of lines be better. You know you do the best you can at the time. And in songwriters’ defense sometimes that’s just the best you can do. Every line can’t be brilliant. Every line can’t be a gem. I hope this additional information helps! websearcher-ga
