Presidential Elections: The Race For Rashtrapati Bhawan

January 9th, 2009
  • Its rather strange that an Indian President is not elected directly by the people of the country. If people would have had a choice, there would have been an almost 100% consensus on the re-election of current president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Almost al opinion polls done by Tv and print media are an open reflection of the mood of the general public.

Ofcourse Sonia Gandhi's so called "Inner Voice" which made her reject the post of the PM does not tell her to go with the Public mood. Sonia's inner voice (read hidden agenda's) are much more important than the voice of a nation. Welcome to India, the world's biggest democratic country.

In our current Presidential setup, there is nothing much Dr. Kalam or any President for that matter can do to bring large scale reforms but with someone with such a large fan following like Dr. kalam its only fair that public opinion has a voice. Technically the President has no role in governance except in few situations and its a sad reality of our Indian Constitution. Its sad to see evil, corrupt politicians fixing up a candidate's name for the President. India's first citizen is selected by people who have looted and plundered public money much like the East India Company, heh.

So if Dr. Kalam is willing for a second term why was consensus not formed on his name in the first place?
The Congres and the Left have no real reason not to support Dr. Kalam. The Left says, no president has had a second term apart from Dr. Rajendra Prasad and so they want to follow that tradition.
Is that a tradition? We have never had a woman president, so lets follow that tradition as well? We have never had a corruption free society, so does that mean we never improve because its been our tradition?
The Left is a blind follower of China and they pretend to act as a common man's voice but they are anything but That.

Left have opposed every positive move in India. the Left opposed Dr. Manmohan Singh's initiative to open up our economy when he was the finance minister under PV Narasimha Rao. The Same left now supports Dr Singh's government. What ideology are we talking about over here? Whatever suits them is fine?

As far as the congress goes or Sonia Gandhi's inner voice goes(because all Congress is just dependant on her Iner voice). Her inner voice says, Ohh Dr. Kalam? He did not sign 'office of profit' bill forced me to resign, right? You think i would support him?
There is a Lok Sabha election due in 2009 (or even before that possibly) and of course we need a pro congress president which can invite us first before it does the BJP or any other party to try n attain the magic number. With my Candidate, its not an issue but with Dr. Kalam? Oh he didnt even attend the so called 50 years completion of Karunanidhi's service in Chennai.

But what about the inner voice's of the people? Well who cares, its just a President.

  • There are too many parties, much like germany had before world war two, the germans dealt with it in one form. India will continue to have this situation until it reduced the pettiness and gets parties that work for india and not for some small worthles leader who wants to get his family into power and bleed the nation to make themselves rich. Whee ae the nationalist? Wher are the leaders, even germanies national socialist did beter than indias secularist, so what does that tell you about the political system, which is good and which is bad?

  • :rolleyes:Prima facie so long we believe in caste politics and appeasement on the basis of minorities there is little hope to change any thing in India. Sorry to say but my feelings are we Indians are headless and selfish and self circled persons who have lost all sensitivity about feelings about terrorism and mafia ism. Last day when BJP and called for 12 hours bandh one sick person could not be taken to hospital and it is alleged that it was due to not getting medical treatment he died. This point was high lighted by TV media for the whole day and on next day the print media also covered it on front page. Does it mean that when other parties give a call for bandh nothing happens like this. No it is not so. But to divert the mind of people from the Shrine issue it was done at the hands of foreign added media and dawn controlled government. We cannot change.
