Following a ruling by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia which overturned the break-up order hanging over the head of Microsoft Corp. but upheld the core findings of the case, New Mexico Friday broke ranks with the 18 other states supporting the federal government's antitrust suit against the Redmond, Wash.-based software titan and settled its claims against the company.

Under the terms of the settlement reached with New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid, Microsoft will pay the state's legal costs and the state will also benefit from any remedies imposed on the company by the resolution of the suit with any of the remaining parties.

The company is reportedly seeking settlements from other states involved in the lawsuit as well.
