I've got my yams pealed, cut, and ready to steam...?

March 16th, 2010
  • but I'm not going to use them until tomorrow (getting too tired). I wanted to get part of the process finished today. Can I store the cut yams in the fridge as is, or should I steam them first? Do they need to soak in water or anything while in the fridge to prevent them from going bad since they are pealed? I'm going to be making sweet potatoe pie for Thursday. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • put them in an air tight container. They might turn a weird color from the air hitting them. You can just repeal them tomorrow. Or go ahead and steam them now.

  • Just put the yams in a plastic bag and store them in the refrigerator, you can steam them tomorrow and they will be fine.

  • Cover in water and leave in fridge

  • It would be best to cover them with water and refrigerate. Cook just before serving for the best flavor.

  • Once they have been peeled you want to store them in cold water. Since it's overnight your best bet would be to put them in cold water in an airtight container and put them in the fridge. If you don't put them in cold water they might turn a dark color.

  • I've never cooked with fresh yams, nobody likes them here, but I'd probably steam them and chill them for later use.

  • I would not cook them. Just cover them in water and refridgerate over night.

  • I have steamed them and used them the next day. i just seal them and reheat them and they taste just as good. If you put them in water the taste will dissappear and they will get waterlogged.
