They misunderstand what we do/do not believe
They misunderstand how much we know that's applicable to R&S
They misunderstand our spirituality
They misunderstand every other religion
Creationist combo:
They misunderstand evolution
They misunderstand abiogenesis
They misunderstand the big bang
If you're an intelligent religious person; hey! Answer more.1. Many religious people assume atheism is a cop-out for someone who wants to live an immoral lifestyle. Wrong.
2. Many religious people assume that to be knowledgeable about religion, you have to be religious. Wrong.
3. Many religious people assume that to find spirituality, you have to be religious (particularly, in their religion). Wrong.
4. Many religious people assume that other religions are "of the devil," and therefore spend no time learning about them. Wrong.
5. Many religious people (in America, at least) assume they can "disprove" evolution by asking, "If we came from apes, why are there still apes?" Wrong.
6. Many religious people assume that abiogenesis is this impossible concept, which "proves" scientists rely on faith as well. Wrong.
7. Quite frankly, I'm not quite sure why religious people are opposed to the Big Bang. It doesn't inherently contradict religious ideas.it's not that these are misunderstandings. it's that these are misteachings. i think there's a difference. a misunderstanding implies that most of these people have been given unbiased information and form a judgment based on this. like, let's say you read a book, and perhaps something is written sarcastically, and you don't pick up on that. that to me is a misunderstanding. those that have these beliefs about atheists are not misunderstanding anything. they being flat out lied to. there is no misunderstanding of what they are taught. they are taught lies and they understand the lies very well. however, they accept that they are truths because they trust the source.Hi, my sister is a huge christian and im not. Its not just athiests they dont agree with its pretty much everyone that isnt saved or have the lord in there lives. I get judged daily by her and get an earfull about my life i live without the lord. So please dont take it to heart, they just are not knowledgable regaurding atheism maybe if they took the time to educate themselves they wouldnt be so quick to judge peoples choices. How come a majority of atheistical people misunderstand everything about believers and tend to be ignorant about their beliefs? You are right. the majority do misunderstand.
But, I think that atheists misunderstand the "religious" people sometimes too.
Evolution, big bang, etc all fits in with my religious beliefs.Christians have to realize that most Atheists were religious before becoming Atheists. I was a christian for 28 long yrs.
Get over it. We understand that most of you are clueless.
Because they are very closed minded. Many of them believe that satan made us Atheists to destroy christianity. Honestly, it has nothing to do with satan or or destroying anything. I don't believe in christ.
I also hate the posts about how unmoral and evil we are. Just ridiculous! They believe what they are told to believe by their pastors and such. Often these pastors are misleading. Also, the Bible tells them we are fools, so they look no further than that passage. And hey, even the Bible calls them sheep.I seriously doubt that you can truly know what the "majority" of religious people do or don't understand. You can't possibly know enough religious people to know the "majority" of them. As for why people don't understand atheism, I would say it is because if you've met one atheist, you've met one atheist. Since all atheism is based on is a lack of belief in a deity or deities, there's a lot of leeway after that. Some atheists still have spiritual beliefs, some are completely into logic and cold hard evidence. Some atheists know a lot that is applicable to R&S and some are just parroting from sites like godisimaginary. As for the "majority" of Christians misunderstanding every other religion -- once again I must say that you can't possibly know the "majority" of Christians. I know a fair amount about several religions and I freely admit it when I don't know about others. Unlike many of the atheists on this site, I also don't pretend I know how another person thinks or feels about any particular subject. Although I will answer based on answers I've seen on this site, after carefully explaining that my answer is based only on that limited knowledge.Same reason many atheists misjudge or categorize religious people. Closed-mindedness. D: They absolutely REFUSE to give any credence to anything at all that doesn't have to do with their belief, that goes for both closed-minded religious zealots and closed-minded atheists. Like the Jesus-freaks who claim all atheists are evil people who will go to hell and suffer for sure unless they repent. Or the atheist who goes on YA RnS just to bash on peoples' questions.
I don't think it's fair to generalize either one. Not all Catholics are religious fanatics who scream verses at anyone who's not a part of their Church. I'm a buddhist but I learn about other religions and taste a bit of each. Likewise not all atheists are God-bashers who won't socialize with anyone simply on the fact that they are religious. I know plenty who are friends with religious community figures, and neither pushes the other.
I think if we all loved each other more the world would be a nice place. :DHow come a majority of atheist people misunderstand everything about religious people?
Goes both ways, oký?What do you mean by religious? I believe in God,but I'm not religious.I personally don't care what anyone else thinks.Think what you will.Well let me see if I have it right.
1. You do not believe God exists.
2. You know a lot but not everything.
3. You don't have spirituality because you don't believe in spirits.
4. Sometimes but what does that have to do with Atheists.
5. I understand many things about evolution, and others things about it I don't understand.
6. Same answer as 5
7. I know the big bang theory was postulated by a Catholic Priest and coincides with at least the Catholic religion.
Am I close to understanding Atheists?
If you believe in a soul for spirituality what happens to it after death? Does it just die with the person, reincarnation, this is actually an interesting concept that I have not heard from Atheists. I was not aware they believe in souls. We don't. Oh, and it is impossible for atheists to be spiritual. You don't belive in spirits.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
