How do i know which car stereos are compatible with a Ford Focus 2004?

March 15th, 2010
  • Am looking to change the stereo in my car to one which I can use my ipod with. I would still like to be able to use my control panel on the steering wheel to be able to operate the stereo. How do I know which stereos would be compatible with this?

  • best bet is asking the retailer of the stereos (somewhere like halfords)most stereos are remote ready all you need is the correct adaptor wiring

  • I believe they are all of a standard size. But I do recall a car I had some years ago, and I think it was a Focus, that needed an extra masking plate. It was only about another £5 but its all about the wiring. Get a pro to wire it up. Halfords are pretty good with this sort of thing. This is the important part to connecting your steering wheel controls.

  • look on the internet

  • Save yourself a lot of money and buy an adaptor. You can get them from www.incarexpress.co.uk and places like that for about £30. You can also get ones that allow you to control the ipod, but they are dearer. You remove the stereo (you need a special tool to do this) and plug a cable into the CD changer plug on the back of the stereo (assuming you don't have a CD changer plugged into it already). Then the cable can be routed to the glovebox or the back of a compartment on the dash.

Otherwise, you can buy pretty much any stereo, but you'll need a blanking plate, wiring adaptor and remote control adaptor.
