Does it bother you when someone uses the word "retarded" (ie "That's so retarded")? If so, why? If not, why not?stop saying i am restarted i am just slooo is all.tmm~~No, as long as it is no way referring to a person.~~No, because I know they're not intending to be an insult, or a reference to those with mental retardation.I use to use that term, not meaning to be offensive, just joking around, often. A friend with a learning disability point out, how she had been called, "retarded" most of her life and how much it hurt her.
I know longer use that word.No. I've been exposed to these types of words so often that they're real meaning is but a distant memory.Well, it depends. If they said it to me like ''you are retarded'' then maybe yes. If, they say ''that's so retarded''... Well, yes a little because if you (for me) say ''that's so retarded'' then I will think whatever I am doing is ''retarded.'' Lol. A little complicated, can't explain. :)Yes, because it is used as a form of insulting another... and polite people do not insult others. I put it in the same category as saying something/one is "so gay." It is intended as a form of a put-down, which is, in polite company, not acceptable behavior.
Have a polite day.i find it insensitive and it does bother me.Not if they mean musically, or to describe something as slow.
People don't use the word correctly and there are better words to use in many cases, but it doesn't bother me much.Yes it bothers me terribly. I have a cousin who is Mentally Retarded. I work with people with disabilities who really are Mentally Retarded. These are great wonderful people who just don't think the same way everyone else does. They're not bad, and there's nothing "wrong" with them.
To use the word "retarded" in a derogatory sense really boils my blood because of this. And I've been known to yell at people for using it around me (my friends know not to use it around me).
Just because they might not get offended when you say it doesn't make it right. When I was in high school, people were making up their own things to say. One of the big ones was "That's so gay." I know a LOT of people, homosexual or otherwise, who would get offended by that. I also knew of a group of people in my school that would actually go around saying "That's so Jewish." Using the R word in that sense is just as offensive as those other terms.Your example is one of a very "lame" person, who may actually be somewhat retarded. Please see dictionary definition below: retarded
Adjective
underdeveloped mentally
Yeah...I hate it...No because its true. There are really retarded people!!! yes!!! it bothers me to the point i want to scream ! i have a brother in law and a nephew who is MENTALLY CHALLENGED!
although the states they live in has classed both as the *R* word. it couldnt be farther from the truth. they do have, as individuals, their difficulties as in learning certain things but if we go by that, EVERYBODY would be classed as such. not one individual on this planet dont have some sort of learning issueI only object when it is wrongly placed. It does bother me. I try to stop myself, but I even slip up once in awhile. I get surprised when people who are clearly educated on the topic, like a nursing student or psych major, says it.
It doesn't bother me a lot; I just think they are innocent and not thinking about what they are saying.
It is disrespectful to say and it's mocking those who are.I have a relative who uses that phrase (that's so retarded), frequently. I truly feel uncomfortable about that ... maybe because special ed students attended my elementary school. I don't think it's politically correct ... though, hardly any expressions are these days.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
