FA Cup Final: Arsenal vs. Southampton discussion [R]

January 7th, 2009
  • They kick off today for the world-famous FA Cup...

We've got Arsenal, who are desperate to add some silverware to their collection after being shut out so far, and Southampton, who are in my opinion the most underrated team in England. Henry vs. Beattie, it doesn't get much better than that.

Arsenal squad: Seaman, Taylor, Warmuz, Toure, Lauren, Luzhny, Stepanovs, Keown, Cole, Gilberto Silva, Edu, Parlour, van Bronckhorst, Pires, Ljungberg, Wiltord, Kanu, Bergkamp, Henry.

Southampton squad: Niemi, Telfer, Lundekvam, M Svensson, Bridge, Marsden, Oakley, A Svensson, Beattie, Ormerod, Fernandes, Williams, Davies, Tessem, Higginbotham, Baird, Blayney, Jones.

  • 0-0 with nearly 80 minutes gone. Good thing I saved my $25. Has it been a good game though?

  • What game were you watching? Pires scored in the 38th...

...and Arsenal held on for a 1-0 win.

  • No, He's right they were very poor.

Just Hooooooofffff the ball up field Hoping it will land on BT's head,
That seemed to be the tactic's ?

Poor Scummmer's, When will they learn eh
Pompey will show em how to play football,Just wait and see next season in the EPL.

  • Very disapointing to see such a negative display from Southampton.

I can understand that they were reticent to get involved in a goal fest as Arsenal would clearly have been the better, but come on guys.

So much for all the noise Strachan made before the match.

    Thumbs down to wee Gord.

  • I think the thing that affected that particular match was the thrashing they recieved from the gooners! It knocked their confidence to pieces! It was easier for them to change tactics and hoof the ball than play like they did earlier and get their butts kicked! Strachan got it wrong,!

  • Henry.. Man of the Match..officially..

I think he checked out the above matchtracker as I don't see the goal listed there, at least yet.

For those who didn't get to see the match or post match interviews, you might find this funny-I did.

In this clip, Henry is asked about the no-call in opening of the first half. He is...well, candid.

  • Live audio on the FA's site, www.thefa.com.

This is the first "official" webcast of an FA Cup Final that I'm aware of.Kudos to the FA and BBC for allowing live webcasts of selected games this season.

    I can't imagine Arsenal losing this match,and I don't even like them.

    What negative display was this?

    Holding out for penalties?
Or just plain inability to do what they wanted - in which case was hardly their fault.

You must have been watching a different match.

  • I may try that webcast in a minute. But the one on BBC didn't work, so that one probably won't either.

So for those of you with my problem, here's the match tracker:
