Who becomes the President of the United States...?
March 17th, 2010They would not be traveling in the same circle, in the same time and the same place. So the possibility of that happening would be minuscule. It would take a national catastrophe or a nuclear war or something like that to to even put that scenario into place. If that were to happen we can all kiss our as-is goodbye. We all would not be worrying about who would become President. We would all be trying to survive.
However,
When the president dies and the VP replaces him, the VP (now the new Pres.) must select a new VP to replace him.
(twenty fifth Amendment, Section 2 allows the president to nominate a new VP should the Vice Presidency become vacant. which in this case would warrant such an action considering the VP is now the Pres.)
So it never goes so far as having the speaker of the house become the next president.
The Pres. and VP are hardly ever together, for this reason.
