Are these people in violation?

March 13th, 2010
  • Under the Terms of Service section 6 paragraph C it states that people can not impersonate someone else. lately I have seen people on Y!A that have been answering Twilight questions as Bella, Edward, Rosalie, etc. as well as other questions as celebrities who are not listed in the list of celebrities who have a Y!A account. Under the terms of service agreement are they in violation? Here is a link to the terms of service agreement so you can read it for yourself and decide if they are or not.

    Read section 6 paragraph C

  • No they are not impersonating , that is a chosen user name the original account is not impersonating anyone , it is signed in as themselves. I have read all the rules & guidelines & you can say you are anyone you chose on any given day, as long as your original account is legal & valid.
What are you the Twilight police? or did someone get the name you wanted first?
What is the problem. I can be Mona Lisa if i want to! As long as my yahoo account matches my original records , which you have no access to!*

Also why are you impersonating Romance? is that not showing love & caring? not a vindictive personality
Humm who should report who here , for impersonation.

  • I am impressed, you apparently are one of the very few that have read the document. But to your question, in light of what you said they are in deed in violation.

  • The rules are more concerned about (a) impersonating other members here and (b) pretending to be a real celebrity.

Personally, if someone wants to be bella, i have no problem with it

  • so what it not go to hurt kid you turn the tv you see people that have killed other people and so much more the world isn't perfect and it well never be so get over it

not that i want to be mean but its just a website

  • My interpretation is if they refer to themselves as the actual person it would be a violation. Ex- what is Stephen King's new novel about?

Answer- (the person has the name and avatar of Stephen King) replies *My* new novel is about (et cetera et cetera)

  • Nobody cares about that to much actually so no.not really.

  • Having the nickname and avatar of a real celebrity, fictional character, or inanimate object is not a violation in itself -- it's only when a member posts from the perspective of that person or object that it becomes violable. If this applies to your specific case, report them using the "illegal" option on the report screen, as it's against the Terms of Service section you've cited.

In addition to not impersonating other users, this guideline also covers impersonating a fictional character or even an inanimate object. It's okay to use a name other than your own, but pretending to be Michael Jackson or even an article of food is not appropriate. "

  • I'm pretty sure it's assumed that NONE of these are real celebrities, and of course they cannot be real fictional characters. They are just showing their affection to a person/character by using the name. I don't see a problem with it.

  • Well they are fictional characters so people should no that its not really them... and also maybe you should stop worrying about trying to get other people in trouble and just worry about yourself

    ~Bill Clinton

  • Are you serious? Is your real name really romance writer? I really hope that you aren't trying to report these people.
