What was Charles dickens achievements as an author? any thing from major to minor, i need to know?
March 18th, 2010His stories were interesting, but those endless descriptions! I just wanted him to get on with the story.
A couple of years ago I re-read 'Great Expectations' after almost 50 years. Surprise, surprise! I felt the same as when I first 'did' it in school.
During the Cold War, young people in the Soviet Union were made to read Dickens. They were told that that was how the western world was. Sewage problems, pickpockets and prostitutes every where and children starving on the streets.
Whether you like it or not, you can't give JZKL. or whatever, a thumbs down for saying that Dickens wrote most of his books in serial form. That's why you come across a cliff-hanger now and again and it's true. The modern day equivalent would be Emmerdale, Coronation Street or EastEnders and let's face it there are parts of all those series you want to skip over.
He wrote Great Expectations, A Christmas Tale, A Tale of Two Cities, and many more. It's on Wikipedia.
