The news lately has shown images from a disputed part of Israel. Jewish settlers are being forced to leave a large communal style house and to hand it over to Palestinians. The Israeli army was being pelted with rocks from Jews instead of Palestinians for a change. And then I notice this sign hanging from off the side of this house; God gave Israel to the Jew. Now, Palestinians speak and write in Arabic so the sign wasn t written for their benefit and even though many Jews do speak and write English, I believe Hebrew is their own preferred language in which to communicate so the sign wasn t written to be read by other Jews. The other thing is that I believe Jews don t like writing God; they write G_d out of some superstitious motive.
So why would the sign be written in English? It s almost as though the Jews who wrote it were expecting people who read English to read the sign. Maybe they were expecting the western news crews to flash footage of the sign on western TV where Christians who believe the bible also believe that their god did indeed give Israel to the Jews. Do you think that s what the Jews were trying to do; gain support from the west?
I know many Israelis. All of them speak English. That is probably why the sign was written in English.
You are assuming that the sign was made for the benefit of the reader. Maybe the writer preferred using English and understood that the vast majority of folks in the area would be able to read it anyway. Or you may be correct. A lot more people in the world understand English than Hebrew, so technically, a lot more people are likely to be able to read the sign if it is in English.I wish you had the links.
Α Ω™Impossible to answer without knowing who wrote it. Most Israelis speak very good English. On the other hand, to me that looks far more like something a Xian Evangelist would write, frankly.
Typically Israelis do not give any thought to what people in the West think. They have learned the hard way that Israel usually stands alone when confronted with Arab armies massing on her borders (1948,1967,1973). Yes, absolutely, Desiree. It was written in English so that English speaking people could read it. And put in a prominent place OR MORE than one, so that it could not be missed! Very good! Fundamentalist Christians believe that Jews must have possession and be governing nearly all of all of Israel so that conditions will be right for the second coming of Christ. And, you know, they DON'T control all of the areas necessary, at least not yet. Now, I hope you know the rest of the story (Auntie Paul Harvey here...). The Christians believe that when Christ does come back, all those Jewish folks that are occupying Israel will be massacred. They believe it, honest, they do!! So, the Jewish people that are there right now are more than willing to empty the deep pockets of the Christians in order to control more territory. The Jews KNOW that the Christians think that they will be killed off in a massive genocide, but they don't care! Jews don't believe in Christ or the second coming, so they know that it's not gonna happen. Isn't this interesting? What maroons, all of them!!
