Why do people ask if something paranormal is going on when they have symtems of a medical condition?
March 17th, 2010For all we know now what we see as paranormal has a scientific explanation, only we have not yet found out what that is. Those who grow up in secluded "Stone Age" societies may see an electric torch as magic, but we know the light comes from the energy in the batteries. Yet some people do appear to have senses with no obvious explanation and a few healers and some who practice alternative therapies are employed by hospitals. As the placebo effect has been known to affect medical conditions, then just suggesting that a person is being cured may work wonders as the body gets on with the job of healing itself.
But all practitioners of alternative therapies should make sure that a person who is coming for treatment has been to a doctor for diagnosis and permission to use therapies first. Then there should be a form detailing medical conditions and a reference back to the doctor if there is any question about suitability. These precautions are taught on any course about alternative therapies and should be followed.
As for going to the doctor with medical symptoms, that applies if anyone knows that they do have symptoms of a medical or psychological condition. Migraine can cause visual disturbances. Hearing voices seems to be fairly common, and may just be a person mistaking their own thoughts and feeings for an internal discussion, or a sign of a more serious condition. When in doubt ask.
Usually they get mad and call you closed minded and such, and sometimes you even get a violation for telling them they need a doctor.
I guess the responsible thing is to tell them the truth. However, you don't have the support of YA!, they think its a violation of TOS as its an "opposing opinion" and might be considered offensive.
I just tell them and hope enough people say to see a doctor that i dont get a violation.
If the "spirit world" is causing their problems, then they must be somehow special, to have such an exotic cause to their troubles. That's much more appealing than if they actually have to change some behavior like overeating or smoking, for example.
