Why the little representation of Muslims, Jews and other non-Christians here?

March 18th, 2010
  • R&S is perpetually a battle ground for Christians and Atheists. Where are the rest? I spot one now and then but are they mostly enjoying the mud slinging?

  • Most Muslims are in the Ramadan section slinging mud there. I prefer to stay clear of YA most of the time, R&S or anywhere else.

  • Reason:

Most Yahoo Answers users are American, Canadian, Aussie, British or Irish because this is the *English language* section.
All those countries have an overwhelming Christian majority. In theory there can't be more than 3-4% of those users muslim. There's no proof they'd be interested in getting caught in the crazy crossfire. There are Muslim users on Answers - they just don't bother with here. Same goes for Jews. There simply aren't enough to make a large impact.

God-bothering and God-baiting are team sports, and require a certain number of users.

Why the disproportionately large number of Atheists? Now that should be a good question. Is Richard Dawkins correct and most Atheists only throw off their agnostic cloaks when safe within anonymity?
Or is it just that Atheists generally represent a section of society unwilling to follow the herd like sheep and the internet is a common breeding ground for counter-culture? I have no proof but I suspect a strong link between university education and lack of religious belief.

  • People have yet to wake up to the threat of Islam (just the way Islam likes it) and Christianity and Atheism are left with the field pretty much to themselves.

  • That's a good question personally i think if you look at the world today it may be a good time to really consider your belief system. I am none of the above and once considered myself agnostic but if you think hard enough you will realize even an atheist has a conscience and can be a great person peace loving and all that. I didnt believe you need to pick a faith so to speak but consider there is a god and most if not all religion has mis interpreted things. All we really need to do is have pity on the needy help them if you can, respect all as you respect yourself and advocate and live by peace because lets face it your either for it or against it. All the commandments are in yourconscienceeweatherr you obey them is up to you its food for thought and once i considered that igenuinelyy felt something. We are not so wise we know all and there are way to many things in life that suggest you are being tempted not to care and push the concept aside. Most religions are self motivated and it even says you can spend your life praying and going to church but thatdoesn'tt mean you are worthy your heart and thoughts make you worthy!

  • Yeah and where are the Amish, lol

  • well to be honest i dont see my contacts around these days so its kinda boring.

  • Well muslims are pretty far and few on the internet from what I've noticed, and seriously when was the last time you saw a jew argue on the internet lol

  • Simple realpolitik.

The USA is much more wired to the internet than the Middle East. And the USA has a population that's >90% christian. It's only browsers from the US and UK which actaully have the time on their hands to ***** about religion here.

  • The Atheists are finally beating up the religious world into submission
