When you read alto clef, is it a tone and octave lower than treble?

March 13th, 2010
  • Yes. The notes on the Alto Clef (from bottom line to top line) are F3, G3, A3, B3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4. On the Treble Clef they are E4, F4, G4, A4, B4, C5, D5, E5, F5.

  • The line in the middle of the alto clef is middle c.
The space in the middle of the tenor clef is middle c.
Just remember that and go from there.

  • Znethru actually has the fastest way to learn the alto clef: remember that the middle line is middle C. That will help you with the Tenor clef as well. With practice, you will be able to remember what the lines and spaces are, and even some ledger lines. Remember, you probably did not learn treble or bass clef in an instant, right? It's the same way with the alto clef.

    Addition:

The tenor clef is read in much the same way as the alto clef: the line that sits between the two arcs is middle C. This clef is also called the "movable C clef," because wherever you put it on the staff, the line between the two arcs will ALWAYS be middle C.

  • No.

Just remember the middle line is Middle C.

You can work all of the notes out from Middle C.

    The Lines are FACEG

    The spaces are GBDF
