How come atheists like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and George Soros are the biggest philanthropists n the world

  • i thought atheists have no morals? how come they seem to be the most generous and loving of those in need?

  • Well Bill Gates is one of the richest people in the world, so he can afford to give. But atheists regularly give to charities. We just don't see the need to put it on the 6 o'clock news whenever we do something good for humanity.

Edit: and for the dude above me, 2 billion dollars is more than you'll see in your entire life.

  • I don't think a person with 50 billion dollars and giving away 2 bil is being very philantropic..

To the person below me, the only way to get 2 billion dollars is to take it from many other people, nothing special to give it back.

  • Because they got the most money to give away?

Based on percentage of income, I've heard that lower income are more generous.

Below is an example I pulled with just a quick google search.

  • They are trying to win brownie points in spite of their blasphemies. They know God exists, (Rom 1) they are suppress the truth.

  • Because when people refuse to acknowledge a supreme Creator that justifies their existence, their only recourse is to fall back on the belief that their existence is justified by making a difference in the world before they die. In today's society, philanthropy is the most popular way to do that. It's kind of sad, because the intent is so noble and worthy, but they're still misguided. Ultimately, those people will be born, and they will die, and when they're gone their lives and how they lived them have no intrinsic significance; once all the people are gone, it's like nothing we did ever mattered. Human life can't justify our existence when human life is transitory; only something permanent and all powerful can.

  • First of all, I doubt that FAITH should ever be an issue when AMYONE decides they want to help the human race with monies they have to give FOR "that." It's their money, they can spend it any way they so CHOOSE........

  • who said atheists had no morals? morals and having faith and love for God is 2 different things. even your schools teaches the golden rule even though they dont allow Christ in the schools! you can be a "good person" and not serve God!

  • Just because someone does not know Christ does not mean they are horrible human beings who care about nobody but themselves. However, giving money is just one way to be philanthropic. There are many Christians, as well as others, who live in near-poverty in order to devote their lives to others. And that is definitely philanthropic.

  • They are fighting desperately to establish a reputation for themselves that will out-live them. It is an attempt to become immortal.

It's pretty sad, actually. And it's selfish, even though it has the appearance of being altruistic.

  • You don't have to be religious to have morals, you can retain your own set of morals that you can abide by and live by.

  • They don't waste their time and money supporting churches that only claim to do good. Ever been inside a church? Who paid for all that gold, silver, velvet, artworks and silk clothing? Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and George Soros give to help people not institutions.

  • As an atheist I can only answer for myself. I don't need some book of fairy tales to give me a moral compass. My parents taught me right from wrong as a kid not God. I don't like to see people suffer so therefore I help when I can. The only difference between a good Christian and a good atheist is the Christian is delusional.

  • The notion that atheists have no morals is asinine. The people named are the biggest philanthropists because they have the most money and can afford to be. The interest alone, on Gates' fortune, is a thousand dollars a second; there is no way he can spend that much money on himself.

  • Maybe because they know if they don't do something, nobody will. They don't expect God to take care of people so if they can step in and help, they will.

Studies show that both atheists and religious people can be moral and philanthropic.
