Random Slides...how to view show

March 11th, 2010
  • I feel like this is the easiest question but cannot believe I don't know the answer. I have a 28 slide PowerPoint. Is there a way to have it run a slide show with the slides in random order - so each time it's viewed all slides are in different order?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • CIndi,
PPA files (PowerPoint add-ins) get opened from within PowerPoint. Once PowerPoint is open, go to Tools --> Addins and then click on "Add New". Navigate to the file you downloaded and then click OK.

If the add-in still won't install, it is quite possible that you have your security levels set to high. Change them to low, repeat the above process and then change it back up.

Post back if there are still problems. I know that Tushar browses this board, so maybe he will pop in with other thoughts.

  • GOT IT - woo hoo, thank you for your help/patience. ~Cindi

  • Sorry about the delay in replying. I have been out of town.

Check out the Random Slide Show Add-in from Tushar Mehta. You can find it on his site:
    http://www.tushar-mehta.com/

It is listed under the PowerPoint section of the menu on the left side of any page on the site.

Let me know if this doesn't meet your needs!

  • Thank you for replying. I went to the site you suggested, downloaded the file but when I tried to open/unzip it says "Windows cannot open this file; randomslideshow.ppa. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it.
Windows can go online to look it up automatically or you can select from a list". When I do the automatic option, it brings me to this site:
    http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409/xml/redir.asp?Ext=ppa

Any ideas (thanks again for your help here). ~Cindi
