Importing Slides

March 11th, 2010
  • I am in the Army. Our unit is compiling a master PowerPoint presentation that contains input from several subordinate units. We want to see if there is a way (via hyperlinks, etc.) that we can set the master presentation up in a way that it can access subordinate units folders and import their slides when a change has been made. Presently we are using the "cut and paste" method which is pretty labor intensive given the number of slides we are dealing with for each subordinate unit. Does anyone know a way to do this? Thanks.

  • Ron,
First: Sorry about the delay in answering. I have been out of town.

You can do what you want in a number of different ways. The two best are:
    1) Set up a text menu slide that links to each of the other presentations. Then, when you run the master presentation, you will access the individual slide sets automatically, as long as they are still where they were when they were linked. The only caveat for this is that if you are moving the whole thing to another machine, you will need to have the same directory structure. To create the menu slide, simply enter the other presentations as text on a slide. Then, select each line of text and use Insert--> Hyperlink to create the link to the file.

    2) Set up a graphical menu. In this case, you can insert each of the presentations onto a single slide by doing Insert--> Object, then selecting "From File" and navigating to each presentation. Make sure that you click the "Link" check box, so that you link to the presentation instead of inserting the actual slides.

let me know if either of these will meet your needs.
