Where can I buy pumpkins?

March 13th, 2010
  • My daughter wants a pumpkin to carve for Halloween, but I haven't been able to locate any except those little green ones. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Please let me know a.s.a.p. Thanks!

  • I Halloween celebrated in Japan as it is here in North America? I know Japan celebrates o-bon but that is in August.

  • Thanks Misa! Actually, I was finally able to locate a farm in Hokkaido where they sell pumpkins. They sent me one by takkyubin and it arrived yesterday just in time!
It was big and round and beautiful and they sent me five other smaller ones along with it for free which were very unusual varieties I had never seen before.

My daughter drew the face on it and I carved it, put a candle in it and displayed it outside on our front porch. Unfortunately no kids came trick or treating. ;-)

  • I have never seen those big, orange pumpkins you can get in America in Japan; you might have a better chance to find them by asking local farmers rather than at the supermarkets.

It is Halloween today. I hope you find the one your daughter will like.
