If you never met anyone outside of your neighborhood you would live in a very insular environment.
Igloos are an insular environment and a very bad joke.The Philippines used to be a colony of Spain. Those spaniards born in spain but lived in the Philippine archiepelago or islands were called insulars or insulares. Whle the children born in the archiepelago of both insular spaniard parents were called penninsulars or peninsulares.
